Executive Board

Serving on the PTA Executive Board

The Banyan PTA Executive Board is a team of dedicated parent leaders who help guide our organization and ensure we fulfill our mission of supporting students, teachers, and our school community.

What does it mean to be on the Executive Board?

  • Decision-Making: Board members play a key role in planning, organizing, and making decisions that impact our school community.

  • Monthly Meetings: Attendance at monthly Executive Board meetings is required to discuss programs, budgets, and upcoming events.

  • Leadership & Oversight: Board members oversee at least one school event each year, serving as the event chair.

How to Join:

Executive Board positions open every school year. The nomination process begins in January, and voting takes place in March. Serving on the board is a rewarding way to make a lasting difference at Banyan while working alongside other passionate and committed parents.

If you’re ready to share your ideas, lead events, and help shape the future of our PTA, consider running for a position

Meet the Team

  • Ashley Breems, President

I’m a mom of two kiddos at Banyan - one is heading into 5th and the other into 2nd. My husband, Jacob, and I are originally from Moreno Valley. I work in the mental health field on the administration side of things. I am very passionate about expanding access to mental health services including Sport Psychology. I also care a lot about making sure our kids have access to enriching activities and experiences that go beyond what the district can provide. I am also committed to helping our teachers and parents feel seen, supported, and appreciated throughout the school year

  • Lauren Shaffer, VP

I’ve been a part of the Banyan PTA for 14 years. With kids ranging from high school to fifth grade, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in many roles over the years, including President, VP of Ways and Means, and VP. I’m passionate about creating fun, exciting, and interactive experiences for our kids, and I love seeing the joy these moments bring to their school years. I support Banyan not only as a parent but also as staff, and I understand the importance of making our teachers and staff feel appreciated. Having lived in the Newbury Park community my whole life, I’m proud to give back to the place that has given so much to me and my family.

  • Rachel Christensen, Secretary

I’m thrilled to serve my first year as Banyan PTA Secretary. A Washington State native, I moved here with my husband for work and stayed for the incredible schools and community. I work remotely as a marketing manager for a real estate firm, but you’ll often find me on the hiking trails after school drop-off. With two children at Banyan, I deeply value its inclusive and supportive environment for all learners. I also serve as Secretary of CVUSD’s Special Education District Advisory Committee, driven by my passion for ensuring every child has access to quality education. Being part of the PTA is my way of giving back to the school and teachers who give so much to our kids, and I look forward to working with this amazing team to help Banyan thrive

  • Jorjana Jackson, Treasurer

I have three kids, 2 at Banyan (a fifth grader, a second grader), and a preschooler who’s a future Bobcat! This is my first year serving on the PTA as treasurer. I also work at Banyan as a para, so I get to see firsthand the many benefits the PTA provides, not only as an employee, but also as a parent. I’m excited to give back to our amazing school community and help support the programs and experiences that make Banyan such a special place for our kids.

  • Lindsey LeBlanc, VP of Ways and Means

I grew up in Santa Barbara and moved to Newbury Park in 2019. I’ve been married for 19 years and have two daughters, one heading into high school and one starting third grade at Banyan. I work remotely as a litigation paralegal, with my three rescue dogs as my favorite “coworkers.” I love being part of the PTA because it allows me to connect more deeply with our amazing teachers, staff, and families, and to help create memorable experiences for all of our Bobcats.

  • Valerie Nabonne, Auditor

I’ve been on the Banyan PTA board for three years. I have two kids here, one in fourth  grade and one in third, and I love being involved in our school community. Outside of PTA, I work in the  insurance business, supporting local families and businesses with my services for over 17 years. Giving back is important to me, and PTA is just one of the many ways I’m able to support our school, students, and teachers.

  • Jennifer Sugden, Historian

I’m a proud mom of three, with two Banyan graduates and one child entering fourth grade. I’ve been part of the PTA for over five years and have lived in the Newbury Park community for the last 14 years having moved here from Wisconsin. I love being involved not only in my city, but also in my kids’ school helping to create a strong, supportive environment for students, families, and staff.

  • Brittany Starkey, Parliamentarian

I’ve been part of the Banyan PTA for five years. I have two kids at Banyan and have called Newbury Park my home my entire life. In addition to being involved in our school community, I’m also active in our local youth sports community. I love giving back and finding fun, creative ways to do so, especially when it means spending time with my kids and creating great experiences for them and their friends.
